USPA President's Cup Qualifier

From the Villages Polo Club:

We are thrilled to host another USPA Presidents Cup Qualifier this year! We have 4 teams entered so every team will play each other in the preliminary round. After those first 3 games we will determine the finalists by win/loss record, then who beat whom, and lastly a shoot-out if there is still a 3-way tie.

The winner of our regional qualifier will advance to the National President's Cup in Wellington taking place April 12-19 at the National Polo Center. Currently, the quarterfinals are set for April 14th, the semis on April 17th, and the finals on April 20th.

This year's Opening Party, on Mar 15 was a great event. The weather was pleasant, albeit windy. Even after the Polo portion of the program was completed, many of us stayed, enjoying the music and the Oxford Polo Club's grounds. The Polo Academy students played four chukkers with the team wearing purple taking the win.  Dale spent some time going over Polo 101 which was helpful for all of the new people. Deidre Miles and Chrissy Moyer won the Tailgating Competition and will receive a Fall season pass. Alex and Marguerita Copher took second place with Rita and Jerry Kelly taking third. The cash raffle was popular with Regina Jessop, Arthur Lewis and Emily Evans taking home their shares. Thank you to all who participated! Lewis Arther and Billy Lindsey performed as Elvis and was excellent. We all owe Lord Lyall a ton of gratitude for hosting us at the Oxford Polo Club. Thank you, Lordi!

Thirty boosters enjoy a tour of the Ma Barker House on Lake Weir. The guide, Wayne, is an expert on the gangsters of the 1930s, their lives and eventual deaths. The house and almost all of its contents are original and visitors can see the results of the gun battle.

You then receive a wristband that enables you to pay $10/person for the afternoon match. Two matches for $20!  Please check this site's calendar for updates.

The 30th Anniversary Video

There are 11 segments in this video:

1. 1995 Games at Oxford Polo Club with Bill "Lefty" Lyall

2. 1996 Games at Oxford - easy to announce games with only one word - "Ismail".

3. 1996 at Oxxford Polo Club. This explains a lot with Lordi, his truck, his Mom, Dad's car and the match.

4. Opening day with the Villages Polo Club Boosters

5. 1997 Match on field 2. Notice the brilliant design of planting trees in front of the stadium. You could watch polo and feed squirrels at the same time. Admission was $1 but in true village fashion notice the cheapo pulling over to watch but not pay. Because of a low budget at the club, we would hire our umpires from McDonalds. They would send over their cast members playing the hamburgler.

6. 1997 final match on Field 1.

7. 1998 Villages Polo Club unique game where primary players all on the field. Notice the Lefty at work. Hire the handicapped.

8. Easter event International. England vs Villages

9. Kids Polo Event

10. Polo Pony Races

11. USA Mexico finals.
